I think, and believe you'd agree, the same sentiment falls in line of how we consider Covenant Children. We point to the Objective Promise of God in the work of the Lord Jesus Christ, noting that any one who places their faith and trust in Him alone can be assured of their estate with God. I realize it's more complicated than that, but I think the thrust is understood. If we grant charity to our children that they are holy, and in a sense, Christians, how much more so those who have been a part of the visible church and have given a credible profession of faith, coming to the Lord's Table at the approval of the session? I'm still looking for those regeneration goggles that some baptists seem to have. ;)

Good comments Daniel - I always think about that at Funeral and if you know they have have Christ as the Lord and Saviour then I think by all means you can say "they are with the Lord" But this does raise the question that we don't really know the hearts of people so if someone does not display what I would say are the "fruits of the Spirit" we can assume they are not "in Christ" -- But that is what 100% of people would of said of the thief on the cross beside Jesus - He probably was not (you might know this) a Jew so was neither circumcised (baptized) or did his "profession of faith" but still went to Heaven to be with the Lord. I always cringe when I go to a "Unchristian" funeral and they talk about ST Peter and the gates and having a great time in heaven etc etc -- One thing we can do at these things is be willing to talk and listen to those mourning and we may have the opportunity to witness to them or family members (especially if you are preaching!)
Anyway - just some thoughts on this..... Tony

Hello Wade. Thank you for visiting our site and interacting with my post on the second commandment.

Since I don't know you, it would presumptuous for me to imply any motivation on your part as to why you asked for a sign. But I curious about it: why did you feel the need to ask God to give you a sign?

I ask this because the return of Christ and the judgment that He brings is clearly taught in scripture. I wonder what need there is for a picture about something that is true and explained (often in explicit detail) in such a fashion as to leave no doubt about what the day of Jesus' return will be like.

So I would conclude that your dream is not necessary to convince people of the reality of hell. In fact we see from scripture, that when the rich man wanted to warn his brothers about what he was facing when he had died, he was told "They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.'" And though he insisted that if one who was dead came to them they would repent, Abraham said: "If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead." (Luke 16:27-31).

And if you are convinced that pictures of Jesus are a violation of the second commandment, then certainly you should not paint of a picture of Him. God would never have us disobey Him just so we can do something that we think is right (see 1 Samuel 13:12-13).

So I would counsel you to witness to others using scripture and warn them to flee from the wrath that is to come by running to Jesus (1 Thessalonians 1:10). Let us be satisfied that God has chosen to bless His Word, as I noted in the original post.

1. Many Pastors at funerals openly say that the congregate at this persons funeral has gone to Heaven and is in the presence of Jesus. How can one really know that to be true? how does a Pastor know the HEART of the congregate? I hear this at reformed funerals as well. No one knows the heart of man { really } except God alone. Only the person themselves know of saving Grace in { their own } heart. Does scripture have anything to say about another person telling others he/she has gone to Heaven? [I realize the confessing of sin / accepting Jesus as their Saviour....but the heart?]
2.Is the word " Reverend"...irreverent? Where did the word come from and why do some use it in churches and some do not...some ministers like it and some don't? a Pastor recently told me NOT to call him 'Dominee' [dutch for Reverend?] because of its implications meaning 'domineering' he says.

I need your advice about the 2nd commandment. I asked God for a sign and that evening I dreamt of His Son returning with flames of fire. As He drew nearer to the earth the flames consumed those who were not ready. They were screaming from the pain. I want to share that dream with as many souls as I can. I feel it was given to me for some great purpose. Their are many who are not aware of that terrible event. Perhaps if they had a illustrated picture of Christ Angels and the burning of the disobedient souls on fire. Maybe the picture of Christ on the clouds would convert many sinners. Is it against the 2nd commandment if I were to warn the masses and paint the image of Jesus with flames of fire in the heavens as he returns? It's a shame that great events like this are stored away in books. The whole world will need to see them.
